Seating What types of edges are available on desks?
Natural wood, laminate, veneer, polyurethane What is the difference between wood veneer, high pressure
laminate, and Melamine?
Wood - wood veneer is natural material wood cut to a very
thin gauge, generally a 1/32 inch thick slice. There are different
types of wood. Wood is classified as either hardwood or softwood.
Softwoods are primarily derived from evergreen trees such
as pine, spruce, redwood, and cedar. Hardwoods generally come
from broadleaf trees that lose their leaves in winter, such
as oak, ash, walnut, cherry and mahogany. High-pressure laminate (HPL) is a thermoset paper/plastic
composite, where decorative papers impregnated with melamine
are consolidated over phenolic-impregnated Kraft papers at
high temperature and pressure to form a homogeneous laminate.
HPL is designed to be used for heavy duty use and is very
durable. Melamine is made up of a Melamine Resin impregnated color
that is Thermally Fused to an Industrial Grade Chip Core base,
Resins are used to make sever layers to produce a laminated
surface. Do laminates fade?
Laminates will fade if exposed to direct sunlight. How should laminate be cleaned?
There is a thin layer of melamine resin on the surface of
High Pressure Laminate, which is very hard and stain resistant,
but there are many modern household reagents that will attack
it. Do not use acids, alkalis, bleaches or abrasive cleaners
on laminate. Surfaces should be cleaned with a clean, soft
cotton cloth and mild detergent such as Fantastic or Formula
409. Are we limited to only standard sizes?
