Design Before You Buy
Ask about our easy design planning grid to "see" what your new office can look like. You can recreate your space on paper and "move" various pieces of furniture, sized to scale, around in the space. It's easy and fun!

Standard Furniture Dimensions
Furniture comes in standard sizes, unless it is custom ordered to fit a specific space.

What does ergonomic mean?
The science of adapting work or working conditions to suit the worker is known as ergonomics. An office space design that integrates ergonomic principles creates a healthier, more comfortable work environment that reduces physical stress on the human body and increases productivity.

Choosing the right chair
If your employees work long hours at computers, having the right chair is essential. Sitting places twice as much pressure on spinal discs as standing, so a chair needs to fit properly. That means the chair should provide maximum body and lumbar (lower back) support, yet be flexible enough to allow movement in relaxed postures.

Basic features to look for in an ergonomic chair:

  • Backrest - A backrest should adjust up/down and tilt forward/back. The tension should be adjustable.
  • Seat height - The seat should adjust up/down. When seated, a person's thighs should be parallel to the floor with feet resting firmly on the floor.
  • Seat pan depth and angle - The seat should adjust forward/back and the seat pan angle should tilt forward. As a result, weight and pressure are evenly distributed.
  • Armrests - Padded armrests should be adjustable for both height and width. For maximum comfort, the seated person should have his/her forearms parallel to the floor.
  • Swivel - For ease of motion, a chair should rotate a full 360 degrees.
  • Base - A five-prong base is best for stability. Casters allow mobility.

Proper casters for chairs and caster options
After you've chosen the right chair, next it's important to select the proper caster. Casters give a seated worker the ability to move easily in a chair while remaining seated.

Tips on Setting up Computer Workstations Correctly
Keep the following in mind when setting up a computer work area:

  • Monitor height and position - A person should view the monitor with a straight neck and head posture. Adjustable height computer tables, monitor arms and keyboard platforms can help create an optimal workstation layout.
  • Arm position - When keying or using a mouse, a person's elbows should be bent at a 90 degree angle. Articulating keyboard platforms, adjustable trays and padded wrist rests help ensure a flat, neutral position. Avoid using a computer at long-reach distances.
  • Add lighting - In bright rooms, replace overhead fluorescent lighting with low-level indirect lighting to reduce glare. In low-lit rooms, use adjustable task lighting to put more illumination where you need it.
  • Monitor filters - A monitor filter can boost readability and increase contrast by cutting glare up to 99%.
